Biography

Catherine Cortez Masto has served as a United States Senator from Nevada since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, she succeeded longtime Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid upon his retirement, becoming the first Latina elected to the Senate.

Before her election to the Senate, Cortez Masto served two terms as the Attorney General of Nevada from 2007 to 2015, focusing on consumer protection and mortgage fraud. She earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1986 and a Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1990.
