Biography
Mark Eugene Amodei has served as the U.S. Representative for Nevada's 2nd congressional district since September 2011, when he won a special election to succeed Dean Heller following Heller's appointment to the U.S. Senate. A member of the Republican Party, Amodei represents a sprawling district that covers much of northern and rural Nevada, including Reno, Carson City, and Elko. He has held the seat continuously since the special election, winning subsequent full terms and serving on the House Appropriations Committee, where he has focused on issues pertinent to his district such as public lands management, mining, and military infrastructure.
Prior to his congressional career, Amodei built a background in law and state politics. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nevada, Reno, and a Juris Doctor from the Willamette University College of Law. He served in the United States Army Reserve and worked as an attorney in private practice. Amodei entered elective office in the Nevada Assembly in 1997 before moving to the Nevada State Senate in 1999, where he served until his election to Congress, including a stint as Senate Minority Leader.
